I do want to see Shutter Island – I had a vague notion of trying to read the novel beforehand but since I don’t think Im going to get time I’ll try to get to the film soonish.

This genre has a nice, easy way of collapsing time and synchronising ‘realities’ – nice to hear of Lon Chaney’s work, e.g., spoken of in terms as a relevant art form rather than as a period work only.

Also – are you going to see Shutter Island? Although it’s more thriller than horror, from what I’ve read I want to watch it.

I’m a big fan of seeing things at the movies, and there are a lot of scenic and ‘big’ howling-at-the-moon silhouette shots that look pretty spectacular on the big screen, but I think you would still enjoy it on dvd. The real pleasure of the film is the detail of the set and the moodiness, and that should translate just as well to the small screen.

Sounds just like what I would like Although Kath said she’s not too keen, so I’ll wait for the DVD (I doubt friends would be interested in gothic horror)

Is it best seen on the big screen? Or will it be almost as good on DVD? I could also go see it by myself I suppose, when she’s off singing
